Jean-Yves Le Drian, patron of the first cohort of the Bachelor’s degree in International Affairs and Relations

Jean-Yves Le Drian has been appointed patron of the first cohort of the Bachelor’s degree in International Affairs and Relations. This appointment marks the launch of a programme with a strong international and geopolitical dimension.

A fitting and significant patron for a new programme

On Monday 22 September 2025, Rennes SB had the honour of welcoming Jean-Yves Le Drian, former Minister of Defence and Foreign Affairs, as patron of the first cohort of the new Bachelor’s degree in International Affairs and Relations.

Drawing on his exceptional career at the heart of global diplomacy and geopolitics, he shared with students an informative interpretation of the major issues of today, providing them with a framework for reflection to support and enrich their learning throughout the year.

His strategic vision and career in the service of the State provided students with a valuable source of inspiration. Through his leadership skills and commitment to the public interest, Jean-Yves Le Drian embodies the values that the school wishes to convey to those who are preparing to take on the challenges of a rapidly changing world.

For an hour, the Minister shared his view of a world at a real turning point, addressing ongoing conflicts, the return of empires and Europe’s place in the new global geopolitical landscape. Students were able to ask him questions on a wide range of topics, including the future of France in 2125, American politics and the organisation of a ministerial agenda in times of crisis.

Jean-Yves Le Drian encouraged the students to think critically, reminding them that “The information we receive must always be put into perspective. We must re-establish the truth! Let’s be vigilant, this is a major challenge we all face. It’s now up to you to take action.”

The Bachelor in International Affairs: a programme at the crossroads of management and political science

Designed as a multidisciplinary programme, the Bachelor in International Affairs and Relations combines the fundamentals of management with social and political sciences. The programme aims to train students to understand the interactions between economics, geopolitics and international affairs in a world marked by interdependent issues.

Taught in English and open to an international audience, the BIA stands out for its teaching approach, which combines academic instruction, applied projects and international exposure. It prepares its graduates to pursue master’s degrees or take up positions in public organisations, NGOs, international institutions or internationally-oriented companies.
