Training for Crisis Management in Virtual Reality with b<>com and RSB

Within companies, many professions are required to handle high-pressure situations where teams must react quickly and effectively to solve complex problems. The objective of this project, titled “The Future of Crisis Management Training,” is to analyse collective dynamics through virtual reality by studying participants’ behavioral, cognitive, and emotional responses in simulated environments.

This project is part of the broader COTUNA research initiative, a three-year interdisciplinary programme involving Professors Laura Noval, Lara Bertola, and Ronald Clarke, in collaboration with b<>com, NAVAL Group, the Brest University Hospital (CHU), and ENIB.

An immersive and scientific experience

A dedicated room, transformed into a fully immersive environment, was set up on the Rennes campus for one month to host this study. During one-hour sessions, teams of four participants navigate interactive scenarios simulating crisis situations with major collective stakes.

Supervised by an engineer from b<>com, the 130 Rennes School of Business students taking part in this experience face situations requiring close cooperation, smooth communication, and rapid decision-making. The data collected will help refine the scientific understanding of team behavior under stress and support the design of more effective training tools. Students thus contributed to scientific progress while enjoying a unique immersive experience.

A partnership serving research and education

This project highlights Rennes School of Business’s ability to connect research, technological innovation, and pedagogy. By collaborating with b<>com, a key player in immersive technologies, the School strengthens its presence in the region and reaffirms its commitment to linking academic research with concrete applications.

By exploring how virtual reality can enhance crisis management and collective performance, Rennes School of Business confirms its dedication to preparing the leaders of tomorrow to act with insight and agility in a constantly evolving world.
