Summer Programme – Sustainable Business

This holistic programme will provide students with conceptual frameworks and practical ideas to understand how organisations and managers can optimise economic, social, and environmental performance to deliver a sustainable business strategy. By discovering international and local ‘Corporate Social Responsibility’ (CSR) practices, students will examine how responsible managers and their companies’ stakeholders can work together to create a more sustainable world.

Next programme:  18 to 27 June 2024

This two-week Summer Programme includes 27 contact hours at Rennes SB, and personal study time to socialise and work with the other students on your course.  Students will develop their environmental and social awareness and sharpen their problem-solving, presentation, and cross-cultural communication skills during team projects in a multicultural learning environment.

The learning content provides an integrated view of how responsible managers can address key environmental and social concerns.  Students will examine the issues affecting key stakeholders in addition to two specific problems facing the planet – the proliferation of plastic and fast fashion.

Specific topics include:

  • Climate Fresco – making links between climate and CSR
  • The purpose of business
  • CSR culture – changing over time and in different locations
  • Sustainable production and consumption
  • Sustainability strategy
  • Zoom on industries – fast fashion and packaging
  • Sustainability reporting
  • The sustainable / socially responsible workplace
  • Group presentations

Learning objectives :

  • Make a case for sustainability and how to integrate it into a company’s strategy, culture, and operations.
  • Identify a company’s stakeholders’ issues and make relevant recommendations.
  • Understand the key challenges and opportunities in the global sustainability sector
  • Identify sustainable business practices in France and Brittany while experiencing history and culture.
  • Sharpen problem-solving, presentation, and cross-cultural communication skills and apply them to sustainable business

Level

  • Undergraduate and postgraduate

Assessment methods

  • Students will complete and be graded on in-class team projects, a team presentation, and a final exam.

Credits

  • Students who successfully complete the programme will be awarded 6 ECTS/3 US credits.

Faculty

  • A multicultural team of professors from Rennes School of Business with expertise in CSR.

Prerequisites

  • Successful completion of at least one year of undergraduate level studies.
  • Strong command of spoken and written English.

Fees

Fee-paying students:

  • €1550 (without accommodation)

Exchange students: tuition fees will be waived if an agreement has been signed between Rennes School of Business and the home institution.
