Programme

Delivered through a structured cohort-based journey, the EMBA ensures a coherent learning experience as the core of the programme, enriched by flagship moments such as an international Learning Expedition, consulting projects, collective and individual coaching, and a final graduating project publicly presented to peers and companies. Participants will also engage closely with Rennes School of Business’s incubator, Innostart, benefiting from hands-on exposure to entrepreneurial and innovation ecosystems throughout their learning journey. These immersive experiences foster peer learning, cross-cultural exposure, and the practical application of knowledge.
At specific points in the curriculum, participants may engage in selected learning components alongside learners from other programmes, creating opportunities for enriched perspectives and cross-cohort interactions. In parallel, certain participants may enter the learning journey through individual competency-based blocks, designed as stackable learning components. These can be progressively accumulated and recognised, enabling participants to subsequently integrate the full EMBA pathway within a coherent degree structure.

History and evolution of the Executive MBA

The Executive MBA is one of Rennes School of Business’s longest-standing programmes, established in 1996 following the Grande École Programme, and has developed through 31 cohorts. While its positioning has evolved over time, it has consistently remained aligned with the School’s international DNA and its pioneering vision, now expressed in the School’s ethos “Unframed Thinking”, which underpins all programmes.

An important milestone in this evolution has been the development of international double-degree partnerships, notably with East China University of Science and Technology. Since 2020, Rennes School of Business and ECUST have jointly operated an Executive MBA Double Degree Programme in Shanghai, combining Rennes SB’s international management expertise with ECUST’s strengths in technology, engineering and innovation. The partnership was designed to prepare experienced managers and entrepreneurs to lead complex business operations in a global environment while integrating sustainable, social and environmental performance into business decision-making.

In 2023, the programme strengthened its positioning around sustainability, shaping several cohorts (29 to 31) and reinforcing a holistic approach to responsible business. Building on this foundation, sustainability is now embedded transversally across the curriculum as an integral dimension of leadership and decision-making.
With the current cohort, the EMBA is entering a new phase of development, leading to the launch of a renewed programme in November 2026. This evolution places greater emphasis on organisational transformation, supported by a strong focus on human-centered AI transformation.

At the same time, the programme format is evolving to better address the diverse needs and learning rhythms of executive participants. While maintaining a structured cohort-based journey as its core, the EMBA progressively integrates a competency-based, block-structured approach that enables greater flexibility and personalisation.
This evolution reflects the ambition to move beyond a traditional executive development model towards a more flexible and continuous learning experience, enabling participants to connect, learn and grow over time within a coherent and academically rigorous framework.
