Incubator for Learning Innovation (ILI): catalyst for disruptive pedagogy

To meet the challenges of pedagogical innovation and technology-assisted learning, the Incubator for Learning Innovation (ILI) department supports the entire RSB community. By integrating the issues of skills, social responsibility, inclusion and digital technology, it promotes a comprehensive approach to teaching and learning.

Areas of focus for the ILI department

  • Continuous professional development for teachers through dedicated training courses.
  • Co-creation of innovative educational programmes with all stakeholders.
  • Promotion of outstanding teaching initiatives.
  • Analysis of learning data to drive continuous improvement.

Training designed to reveal individual potential

Rennes School of Business offers a demanding and supportive academic environment focused on the development of lasting skills. This approach is based on a balance between theory and practice, active and participatory teaching, the integration of social responsibility issues and the promotion of experimentation.

The optional online modules, designed by the ILI department, extend this dynamic by stimulating students’ curiosity, critical thinking and cross-disciplinary skills.

Educational technology: a strategic tool for transformation

At Rennes School of Business, technology is a real lever for educational transformation. The school takes a pragmatic, ethical and evolutionary approach to innovation:

  • Flexibility: hybrid formats, remote access, eLive platform.
  • Diversity: enriched content (videos, podcasts, gamification, micro-learning).
  • Engagement: interactive tools that promote collaboration and co-construction of knowledge.

New technologies, virtual reality, immersive design and educational AI are evaluated according to their educational relevance, sustainability and ethics.

Learning Spaces and Innovation

LE LAB’: a redesigned learning environment

Opened in 2023, LE LAB’ embodies Rennes School of Business’ innovative vision: an immersive, modular and interactive space designed as an incubator for new teaching practices. It develops project-based learning, creativity and collaboration through design thinking, collective intelligence and brainstorming workshops. A member of the LearningLab Network, LE LAB’ is aiming for full certification in recognition of the quality of its facilities and approaches.

Alongside LE LAB’, the E-Motion Room, the Media Room and the interactive rooms offer immersive learning experiences where theory and practice come together.

These spaces are structured around three areas of excellence:

  • E-learning design – design of hybrid and interactive modules,
  • Test & Learn – experimentation and support for pilot projects,
  • Learning Spaces – creation of collaborative and inspiring environments.

Together, they constitute true educational experimentation laboratories, placing innovation and experience at the heart of learning.

Learning differently

At Rennes School of Business, learning differently means placing experience at the heart of teaching. Students become active participants in their education thanks to immersive, collaborative and innovative approaches.

The Learning Expedition (LEX) combines theory and practice through field projects, company visits and conferences. Motion Day is a day dedicated to experimentation and creativity.

With virtual and augmented reality, spaces such as the E-Motion Room, the LAB and the Media Room offer interactive and engaging experiences.

Reverse mentoring, recognised by the AACSB, also illustrates this approach: students share their expertise on emerging topics, such as artificial intelligence, in a collaborative and intergenerational setting.

Recognised and encouraged teaching excellence

Rennes School of Business recognises the commitment and creativity of its teaching staff through its Award for Excellence and Innovation in Teaching, an annual distinction that rewards the most innovative, impactful and inspiring teaching approaches. This award highlights initiatives such as new course formats, collaborative practices and educational experiments. It illustrates the school’s desire to make teaching a real lever for innovation, on a par with research and international partnerships.

An ambitious vision of higher education in management

At Rennes School of Business, pedagogical innovation is a deeply held conviction: higher education must reinvent itself to train the leaders of tomorrow. By focusing on active, technological, collaborative and responsible approaches, the school offers its students much more than a degree: the ability to understand, anticipate and transform the world around them.

In addition, the school places experience at the heart of learning. Through innovative programmes such as the Learning Expedition (LEX), Motion Day and virtual reality immersions, students develop their creativity, critical thinking and ability to act in complex environments. These approaches combine exploration, collaboration and experimentation to transform knowledge into concrete and lasting skills.

Through the work of the ILI department, the boldness of reverse mentoring, the commitment of the Centre for Unframed Thinking and the educational power of the LAB’, RSB embodies a committed, demanding and resolutely forward-looking educational model.
