Rennes School of Business champions sustainable student initiatives with the Act for a Better Campus Challenge

To merge student engagement and sustainability, Rennes SB organised the Act for a Better Campus (ABC) Challenge on 18 January 2024. The event’s primary objectives were fostering student cohesion, instilling a profound sense of belonging to the campus, and igniting an engagement for positive impact. Rooted in Rennes SB’s commitment to sustainability, the challenge integrated the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into the students’ everyday lives.

The challenge tasked students with forming teams to create posters addressing issues within the campus environment. This multifaceted approach required participants to:

• Discover the School Campus: Teams were encouraged to explore the campus, ask questions, and identify problems or issues that could be improved.
• Identify Root Causes: Once a problem was identified, students delved deeper to understand the root causes, promoting a holistic approach to problem-solving.
• Explore Existing Solutions: Teams were challenged to research and present examples of existing solutions, connecting them to sustainability practices.
• Link to SDGs: Every solution proposed had to be linked to one or more United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, reinforcing the importance of global objectives in local actions.
• Present a Concrete Solution: The challenge culminated in teams presenting well-thought-out, concrete solutions to the identified problems.

Students were evaluated on four key criteria: the impact and creativity of their posters, the relevance and readability of data linked to the SDGs and Rennes SB, the appropriateness and feasibility of the proposed solution, and the effectiveness of their pitch in communicating the issues and solutions.

The Act for a Better Campus (ABC) Challenge epitomises Rennes SB’s commitment to creating business leaders and responsible global citizens. By engaging students in real-world problem-solving with a sustainable focus, Rennes SB is sowing the seeds for a more sustainable future. The event solidifies the sense of community among students and reinforces the school’s dedication to making a tangible impact on the world through education and action.
