High-level research is at the very heart of Rennes School of Business’s activities. Regular events take place at the school with the aim of promoting research, and to provide a place of meeting and exchange for members of the academic community, experienced professionals, Alumni and students.
The annual congress of the French Society for Operational Research and Decision Support (ROADEF) is the largest francophone event aimed at uniting researchers from various Combinatorial Optimisation, Operations Research and Industrial Engineering laboratories. The objective of the event is to promote exchanges and collaborations between researchers and industry, but also to participate in the training of young researchers who are strongly encouraged to present their work.
This year, for the 24th edition, the ROADEF congress took place on the campus of Rennes School of Business, organised in collaboration with IMT Atlantique and Université Rennes 1. The organising committee included researchers from Rennes School of Business, IMT Atlantique and IGR-IAE (UMR CREM). The conference was supported by Rennes Métropole and Bretagne Supply Chain.
Over 630 researchers and industry representatives responded present to attend the conference, create new connections and exchange with other experts from their domain.
“A member of the ROADEF board asked me in September 2021 if we at Rennes School of Business were ready to organise the 24th edition of this annual conference. After several weeks of internal reflection and discussion to check the financial viability of the project and whether we had the resources to be able to organise such a conference with more than 400 participants (the original projected figure), we officially applied to organise the event and our proposal was accepted by the ROADEF society in December 2022.
We are the first Business School to organise the ROADEF and it was the first time it was organised in Rennes.
The ROADEF congress brings together teachers/researchers, students and industrialists from over 200 institutions and companies. It allowed Rennes School of Business to assert its presence among the most prestigious research institutions in France. The feedback received from participants has been extremely positive on both the scientific and organisational aspects, allowing us to attract future collaborations with French and foreign researchers of a very high level.
Organising a conference is a great adventure, especially when the number of participants goes from a forecast of 400 participants but reaches 635 attendees on the day! Thanks to a dynamic and dedicated organising committee, we took up the challenge and obtained results that exceeded all of our expectations!”
