Bachelor’s Degree in International Affairs and Relations: training future experts in international dynamics

Le Bachelor in International Affairs and Relations (BIA) at Rennes School of Business offers a rigorous, interdisciplinary and distinctly international education. It is designed for students wishing to prepare for careers in international organisations, diplomacy, NGOs, public affairs or global professional environments.

As the School’s second Bachelor programme alongside the Bachelor in Management, the BIA enhances the Rennes School of Business portfolio while fully embodying its international DNA.

The first cohort benefits from the patronage of Jean-Yves Le Drian, former French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, whose commitment reflects the ambition of the programme and its strong grounding in contemporary international relations issues.

A degree in international relations rooted in contemporary realities

The Bachelor in International Affairs and Relations is built on core teaching in:

  • Theories of international relations and global governance
  • Geopolitics and international security
  • International law and institutions
  • International political economy
  • Public policy analysis
  • Intercultural communication and negotiation

From the first year, students learn to analyse global issues through complementary approaches at the intersection of political, economic and social perspectives.

The multicultural environment of Rennes School of Business fosters debate, openness and the development of genuine intercultural competence. The programme aims to train profiles capable of understanding and securing physical, financial and regulatory flows in an unstable international context.

An experiential and purpose-driven pedagogy

The programme’s first year has been marked by the implementation of varied and innovative teaching approaches.

Highlights include:

  • Communication through theatre, with classes delivered on the stage of the TNB and on campus. Public speaking is developed as a strategic lever, through discourse analysis and scenario-based exercises.
  • “Disconnect to Reconnect” workshop, in digital disconnection: three days outside the traditional academic setting dedicated to meditation, yoga, connection with nature and reflection on the impact of digital usage on individuals and the planet. Students notably complete a digital fresco workshop and will develop a technology-free training module aimed at raising secondary school pupils’ awareness of responsible digital tool usage.
  • An invitation to take part in a conference with Admiral Bernard Rogel, as part of a sponsorship event for the MSc in Geopolitics & Business, enabling BIA students to engage in discussions on contemporary strategic challenges.
  • The module “Information Literacy – Cultivating Critical Thinking”, designed to develop students’ ability to analyse, verify and use information rigorously and ethically, particularly in managerial decision-making. This module included talks on fake news with Rich Preston from the BBC and Julia Sieger from France 24, as well as contributions from journalists at Ouest-France.
  • Courses in co-development and the creation of training modules, delivered with Professor Raphaël Bantigny and the Instructional and Learning Innovation team.
  • Organisation of a round table with the World Trade Center Rennes Bretagne network at CCI 35, under the leadership of Nicolas Beaty: students will design a day dedicated to informing local businesses about commercial development opportunities within a specific geopolitical area.
  • Classes with faculty researchers on the cognitive impact of excessive social media use, notably with Professor Laura Noval.

These initiatives reflect the programme’s commitment to developing critical thinking, analytical capacity, perspective and responsibility — core competencies in the field of international relations

International academic and professional prospects

The Bachelor in International Affairs and Relations prepares students to:

  • Pursue a Master’s degree in international relations, political science, geopolitics, international business or global studies
  • Join international organisations and NGOs
  • Work in diplomacy and public affairs
  • Move into international consulting, geopolitical analysis or risk management
  • Undertake roles in international negotiation
  • Develop export and international trade activities (large corporations, consulting firms, chambers of commerce, economic institutions)
  • Work in supply chain and global operations (maritime transport, aeronautics, international groups such as CMA CGM)

Built on the international network of Rennes School of Business, the programme benefits from the School’s global academic expertise and partnerships.
