Rennes School of Business inaugurates its new Centre for Unframed Thinking (CUT) on the Paris campus

On Thursday 24 March 2022, Rennes School of Business inaugurated its new Centre for Unframed Thinking (CUT) on the School’s Paris campus.

The first business school-based Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) worldwide, the Centre for Unframed Thinking (CUT) is an initiative by Rennes School of Business and its partners to foster interdisciplinary research at the highest international level and to contribute to the global effort devoted to the analysis of the numerous complex issues raised by ongoing crises.

This inaugural event was based on the central discussion of “Digitalisation: blockchain assets & digital sovereignty,” with digitalisation one of the most active research centres at the School.

On the programme:

  • The evening was opened by a few words from Thomas Froehlicher, Director General of Rennes School of Business, Céline d’Azémar, Academic Dean of Rennes School of Business and Sarah Robinson, Co-Director of CUT.
  • The introduction was followed by “The Unframed Thinking Talk: how can unframed thinking be applied to economics?” which was moderated by Alan Kirman, economist and director of studies at EHESS and Raouf Boucekkine, Associate Dean for Research at Rennes School of Business and co-director of CUT.
  • The next topic was “Digital currencies: technology and the future of money,” moderated by Jean-Pierre Landau, Professor of Political Science, Roman Matkovskyy, Professor of Finance at Rennes School of Business and Rabah Arezki, Co-Director of CUT.
  • The final part of the evening was the first CUT Policy Panel on “Digital privacy and sovereignty,” moderated by Olivier Bouin, Director of the RFIEA Foundation, Minggang Zhang, Deputy General Manager of Huawei, Michail Batikas, Professor of Supply Chain and Information Systems at Rennes SB and Julien Nocetti, Professor of Finance at Rennes School of Business, holder of the Chair in Cyber Risk Governance.

Along with producing ideas to serve in the elaboration of high-level research projects (the main output), the Centre For Unframed Thinking’s activities will take various forms, including teaching, public engagement and events.
