Strengthening operational excellence: Lean Six Sigma Green Belt in the MSc in Logistics, Supply Chain and Purchasing

The MSc in Logistics, Supply Chain and Purchasing at Rennes School of Business integrates Lean Six Sigma Green Belt training into its curriculum, strengthening students’ expertise in process improvement, data analysis and operational performance.

A complementary qualification for RSB students

The MSc in Logistics, Supply Chain and Purchasing now incorporates Lean Six Sigma Green Belt learning, developed in collaboration with the Six Sigma Institute and structured through an integrated curriculum mapping approach. This enhancement is based on a DMAIC competency framework and aligned with the Council for Six Sigma Certification training manual, ensuring consistency with recognised Green Belt standards.

A structured integration across the two-year programme

The integration is embedded across the full two-year structure of the programme. Lean Six Sigma Green Belt content is progressively distributed across four courses in Master 1 and five courses in Master 2, enabling students to build competencies in process improvement, data analysis, quality management and operational control in direct connection with their supply chain studies.

In Master 1, the learning pathway introduces foundational concepts through courses in Introduction to Logistics & SCM, Statistics & Data Analysis, Decision-Making Techniques in SCM, and Operations Management. These courses cover key elements of the Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve and Control phases, representing approximately 25 hours of instruction.

Developing operational excellence and applied expertise

In Master 2, the integration is further developed through Distribution & Transportation Management, Sustainable Supply Chain & Green Logistics, Supply Chain Risk & Disaster Management, Advanced Production Systems & Industry 4.0, and Supply Chain Project Management. These courses extend the application of Lean Six Sigma tools to logistics, sustainability, risk analysis, process capability and DMAIC-based project work, accounting for an additional 25 hours.

Overall, the programme includes an estimated total of 50 hours of Lean Six Sigma Green Belt instruction, aligning with the standard range typically recommended for Green Belt preparation. This curriculum development strengthens the academic and professional positioning of the Master in Supply Chain Management by combining disciplinary expertise with structured approaches to continuous improvement and operational excellence.
